I’m miserable

It has been warm here, then below freezing, warm again, and today it’s raining. My sinuses are really giving me grief. And, getting my projects done with the weather and a reoccurring sinus headache? Impossible.

A few good things have happened for sure. My favorite uncle remembered he got a $25.00 Home Depot card for Christmas…and he GAVE it to me!!! Which is basically free money. Awesomeness!!

So, after a nap (and a couple of Motren washed down with Gatorade) I was ready to rock!

I seriously cannot express how excited I was. I honestly only needed a couple things and when it was all said and done? My bill came to exactly $25.99…so I only spent a buck of my own money…Who wouldn’t be thrilled?!?

I talked in my other post about Wipe on poly and that is absolutely what I wanted to buy for the funky chair.  Just in case you missed it.😜

I watched a great little video about it on YouTube by user My Random Reviews 411. Now, for what I am currently doing? This is much more complex….my work is just easy peasy little piddling…but the video certainly gives all the important information (which is also on the back of the can) and there is a Kitty at the end so it’s worth the watch.

Of course I got distracted while in there I might have a couple of other ideas about the house…maybe.

At any rate I found what I needed and I might have picked up a stack of paint swatches to match this color pallet

 I have been loosely following.

I went with the gloss because I just don’t think a matte finish will be my taste in painted wood…I kind of worry it would look murky and I’m just not down with murky painted wood.

While I was there I picked up some wooden dowel rods for another project that I found on Pinterest. Rachel Paxton has an absolutely brilliant idea for DIY curtain rods. I found them charming, affordable, basically irresistible. I doubt my home with sport any other style rods again. The project is for another day. But, with the ability to acquire my items basically free? “In the cart, My Darlings!”

No matter what anyone says I got my money’s worth…granted I only spent a buck of my own….That totally makes me giggle with glee.

When you have big ideas and a small budget? It’s the little things that count!

Moving right along…

So I DID end up making it to the store. I was able to find the Rit dyemore. And, I grabbed some small pieces of fabric for .97 cents!

I picked up a few other odds and ends…Gold craft paint for another project that I have in mind, a couple of spray bottles, and I swung by the clearance and found this:

I think it will be great for my giant, paper flower, thingy that I shared in my first post.

As soon as I got home (I ate) I got started. I prepared the Rit according to the directions and put it into my spray bottle, ran outside and got to spraying. It did not work. Not even kinda. What ever synthetic material it does work on? It is absolutely not made of the same compound as my old, funky, 70’s chair!

Luckily I had picked up some fabrics. I could still pull this off.

So we got to painting.

I didn’t really care if the kids got paint on the original fabric. I’m going to re-cover the whole thing anyway. We primed it with flat and then painted with a white high gloss trim paint.

It turned out pretty good. We let it dry over night and I was only able to find one runner this morning on a back leg. I sanded it down and resisted the urge to point it out to my thick paint using kiddos. While I was sanding I went ahead and knocked down any lumpy bumpies and hit the chair with one last coat this morning.

These things really cannot be done in a day. The chair needs to sit until is is absolutely completely dry and cured. Once that happens it will be time to put a protectant coat over the paint. I will be using a Wipe on polyurethane by Minwax. Which I don’t have on hand…so I guess that means I will have to do a little more shopping 😖

So many plans…I need a nap.

Have you ever gotten so excited at the prospect of something that you completely wear yourself out? That is totally me ALL THE TIME.

I have recently decided to (finally) start to decorate the big ranch style house I bought…from an actual real life Hoarder. For the past two years all extra money has went in to structural repair (don’t even ask 😖) and at long last it is time to get around to to the visual stuff.

I have been carefully planning out accomplishments all week. I have put myself to sleep every night with visions of DIY projects that will make others sick with envy….not that I have loads of company…but if I did? They would all secretly hate me because my house is gonna be Ah-MAZE-ZInggg. Seriously. I’ve got a plan.

I have been busting with so much anticipation that I have been doing tedious projects to expel some of the pent up energy.

That isn’t me in the pic….it’s me holding the camera. But! I made that out of sheer desire to be doing something. It’s massive. I already know exactly where I’m gonna put that sucker too…after I punch out and paint the living room. In hindsight I should have picked a better book. I picked one I didn’t care for. I thought my heart wouldn’t let me destroy a book that I love. But, I like it so much, I really wish I had chosen a more awesome book to showcase. Oh well, I am keeping it…and making two more of various sizes….But I digress…

I have picked up two funky pieces of old furniture from the thrifty shoppe next door to my job. An old beast of a coffee table from the 70’s that I want to turn into a bench and this baby:Kinda looks like it would smell like pee, right? It doesn’t. It’s just ugly. It’s not stinky at all.

Rit has a dye for synthetic material now  called Rit Dyemore. https://store.ritstudio.com/rit-dyemore/

So I really wanna dye that chair…like Baaaaaaad. I want to dye it and I want it to work. Because if it does? I’m going to dye my entire sectional. That in itself is a ridiculously large undertaking. And, I’m pretty sure that I’m unwell for even thinking about doing it…so that is why we are gonna try the chair first.

I saw some stuff on Pinterest. I think I see where they failed and I think I have figured out the proper formula…I’m probably wrong. But I really don’t think that I am…

So, all of these projects…well the idea of these projects has had me so excited that I am now an hour away from getting started and I am Exhausted!!! I am ready to get my butt home and nap for days. I am literally so weary at the idea of going to the store to buy dye that I feel like crying a bit.
